Jack + Ella – Hometown

JACK + ELLA – AN EMERGING FRESH NEW ACT

‘Hometown’ is a lovely sing-along number with a warm and heartfelt mood that reminds us of Fleetwood Mac crossed with Dolly Parton or Taylor Swift it’s a good mix and match of solid infuences. We don’t think they are trying to copy those artists as they rather have their own unique sound. You can tell these guys have been working hard in the studio because the production is pristine and crisp but with a sort of retro analogue green grass feel to it look out for them in a town near you soon– 4/10

JACK + ELLA

Hometown Single Cover

Jack + Ella are a country duo based in London, UK.  Their music is rooted in country, with infectious and catchy pop rock hooks.

Their influences include artists like Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, John Mayer, Lady Antebellum, Florida Georgia Line and Taylor Swift.

Both Jack and Ella are rock guitarists at heart and love to integrate the sound of rock n roll and male-female vocal harmonies in their country songs.

Jack + Ella met when they were 16 at a young talent competition that their dads had taken them to. Years later, in May 2016, they re-connected after recognising their musical and personality similarities over social media!

They realised very quickly that their writing and playing styles complimented each other too well for them to keep pursuing their own music without each other – and so their official partnership was formed !

The duo are gearing up to release their debut single ‘Hometown’ on 3 April 2017, with an EP entitled ‘Ready’ to follow two weeks after on 17 April 2017. They will then be playing shows across the UK for the rest of the year as well as starting work towards their first studio album.

Yellow Creatures ‘Spectrum’

‘Spectrum’ is the third EP from Newcastle based Yellow Creatures.

It follows their 2014 release  ‘The Year of Everything & Nothing’ EP  which saw the band being selected to play the BBC 6 Music Festival in 2015  where they were introduced by Tom Robinson.

Yellow Creatures influences range from current pop and alternative artists such as Tame Impala, Solange and Radiohead to the 1960s Musique Concrete of Delia Derbyshire.

After exploring a more synth-driven direction on their 2015 track ‘Calendar Man’  which was included in The Tipping Point blog and received airplay on BBC Introducing, Spectrum’ is the most developed and experimental record Yellow Creatures have released to date.

The seven songs are a collage of found sounds and pop melodies incorporating field recordings, electronic beats, swelling synths and polyrhythmic drums.

Lyrically  ‘Spectrum’ is dreamy and pensive with frontman Marc Bird exploring themes both personal and universal.

‘Last Census’ is a frenzied  pulsating prophecy of what life might be like after the last-ever census on Earth  while ‘Pressing Buttons’ is a shimmering, euphoric ode to how modern technology affects our personal relationships.

Spectrum EP Cover

The EP will be available to download from yellowcreatures.bandcamp.com on 27th February and is available now to pre-order along with a free download of lead track ‘Spectrum’

Peru’s Time Cero deliver the goods with new album that rocks

TC Carlos

Time Cero are a rock/alternative/metal band based in Lima, Peru and fronted by their creator Carlos Li Carrillo who moved to Boston USA when he was 18 years old. During his teenage years in Lima, Peru in the mid 80’s, Carlos was the bass player and co-writer of Thrash Metal band “Curriculum Mortis”. Their first material was recently released on a U.S. vinyl edition and sold out 1000+ copies in the first year of release.

During the early 90’s Carlos was in the Progressive Rock band called ‘Avispon Verde’ and recorded 2 records while gigging regularly across the Lima alternative rock scene. In the late 90’s Carlos relocated to Hong Kong where he was influenced by numerous music genres and sounds from different parts of the world delving into digital recording and electronic sounds.

In 2001 while Carlos was travelling around the world, he created Novalima an Electronic collective band. The band mixed different grooves and singers from the around the world with Afroperuvian vocals and percussions.

Novalima became a big success with its first self-titled album on the Lima music scene and they soon signed their ” Afro” album with Mr. Bongo Records based in the U.K.

The song Machete was licensed to the world famous Robert Rodriguez “Machete” movie starring Danny Trejo and Robert De Niro. Later on Novalima released the album Coba Coba which was nominated for the 10th Latin Grammy as Best Alternative Record.
It was after producing one more album in his previous band that Carlos decided to move into different directions and started his current solo project called Time Cero.

Time Cero mixes a combination of styles ranging from Industrial Metal and Rock sounds to tribal and dance percussion. The project was recorded in Lima, Peru and was mixed and mastered by Kevin Paul in London.

Kevin Paul was the head engineer of Mute records and has mixed known bands such as Nick Cave, David Bowie and Depeche Mode. Adreyn–Demarrer

Alt Demarrer cover

Countless artists battle to carve  define or establish their own musical identity. For some  it’s a strenuous process of experimenting with various musical styles in an attempt to stumble upon something that “fits”.   From the upcoming release of his debut E.P. “Demarrer”  spearheaded by the singles “Anthem” and “Tomorrow” what is apparent about Adreyn Cash is that he is an artist that is not only fully aware of his musical identity  but in full  natural command of it.

With its routes dug deep within soul music  Adreyn Cash’s sound consists of the smooth mixture of emotion and perhaps even fear projecting music that is alternative: dark but by no means depressing. He said ” I create music that people can listen and relate to  but also music that reaches out to the person within  the one whom we hide from the masses, my music is the voice for the hidden us.

Currently living in London but originally from Kingston, Jamaica (of Taino descent), growing up  Adreyn found himself in and around music from an early age. A strong musical heritage consisting of reggae artists RDX, Eric Donaldson and growing up in Church with MNEK, the all-important presence of his mother meant that becoming a musician himself was something he was destined to do.

It wasn’t until the age of 16 however that he started taking his music seriously upon which  he was able to flourish at an array of opportunities. He championed renditions of songs such as John Legend’s “Ordinary People” at weddings, birthdays and secondary school performances that on one performance included the Mayor and Mayoress of his borough amongst the delighted audience. Excitement for him as a musician was growing. “The belief was that once he gets into the industry there will be no stopping him”- Mayor of the London Borough of Bromley.

With the acknowledgment of him as a musician increasing, he began playing bigger events for an expanded fan-base that continued to grow ever stronger. This ultimately culminated into an early highlight of his career: performing at the Indig02 in December 2009.   The freedom to write  produce and sing his own music started the process of writing the demo “Slow Motion” in 2010.

Staying true to emotions inspiring his music “Slow Motion” was recorded to capture a moment in his life where he wished he could dissect his life piece-by-piece to see if he would change anything. Lyrics such as “I’m losing all emotion in my heart, what’s happening? Where do I even start? and the simple and slow harmonious beat consisting of steady string chords and decisive piano chords, gave a glimpse of Adreyn Cash at an embryonic stage as an artist: thoughtful, deep rhythms and vocals.

With an assortment of successful live performances to his name, his attention turned to creating “Demarrer” his first full length EP. The E.P was produced by Rushard Allwood, Jude Gyamfi-Osew Tyrell, Paul Segun Olowu at Allwood’s Studios in South London.

New material from 80’s band Animotion

animotion

Earworms. You hear that catchy song once and it’s stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

That’s what it was like in 1984 every time Animotion’s Obsession came on the radio. A number 6 hit in the U.S., it was the first of six singles that made the American charts between 1984 and 1989.

It was at the end of the 80’s that the band broke apart. Charles Ottavio and Astrid Plane were fired during the recording of their third album and Bill Wadhams left when the record label refused to let him continue to write songs for the band.

Over the years, there have been a few reunions for events and TV programs but it wasn’t until now that there has been a true reforming of the band. Wadhams and Plane along with two other original members, Don Kirkpatrick and Greg Smith, have recorded a brand new album, the first for the group since 1989’s Animotion (Room to Move) and the first that included all of these members since 1986’s Strange Behavior.
